GIH Learning Communities

Communications Learning Community

The Communications Learning Community is designed to help foundation communications staff foster peer relationships, accelerate the sharing of innovative and effective communications approaches, and identify strategies to combat misinformation and disinformation. It offers virtual and in-person learning opportunities; connects peers in the field; and acts as a hub for resources, including sample documents, tool kits, and templates. This community is made possible by the support of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.

Firearm Violence Prevention Learning Community

The Firearm Violence Prevention Learning Community is designed to explore and expand the adoption of philanthropic strategies to reduce firearm violence. It promotes shared learning and collaborative problem solving, provides guidance and support to funders new to or considering investments in firearm violence prevention, raises the visibility of firearm violence prevention within the field of health philanthropy, and encourages additional investments in related interventions. Made possible by the support of The Joyce Foundation, The Kresge Foundation, the Jacob and Valeria Langeloth Foundation, the Missouri Foundation for Health, and the Roots & Wings Foundation, this learning community convenes in-person and virtual meetings and facilitates peer-to-peer communications.

Health Equity Learning Community

Grantmakers In Health’s Health Equity Learning Community is a topically-focused community of practice created to advance health equity through shared learning, collaboration, and collective action. At a time when equity-focused efforts are facing heightened challenges, it is more important than ever for us to come together to support one another, to strategize and drive meaningful progress in health philanthropy. Designed specifically for health funders, this learning community fosters peer-to-peer connection, collective problem solving, and deep engagement on the broad issues of health equity. It convenes both in person and virtually to create space for reflection, dialogue, and action.

Policy Staff Roundtable

The Policy Staff Roundtable provides a forum for health funders’ policy-focused staff to come together to share best practices, ask each other questions, and learn from common experiences. This is an informal group that prioritizes peer dialogue, relationship building, and candid communications and meets virtually periodically throughout the year and in-person at the annual conference.

CEO Working Group

The CEO Working Group’s objective is to help CEOs address challenging topics in health and philanthropy. These calls or in-person meetings are open to GIH Funding Partner CEOs, Presidents, Executive Directors, or the highest-ranking health staff at multi-issue foundations. During these candid, confidential conversations, philanthropic leaders share information, swap strategies, raise concerns, and ask for one another’s advice. Conversations take place virtually throughout the year and in-person at the annual conference. Recent discussions have addressed health policy, health equity, access to health care, and philanthropic growth and impact.  This learning community is made possible by the support of the Missouri Foundation for Health.
